For several years, I put my English degree to good use as a classroom teacher in Indonesia and in Florida. However, the classroom environment ultimately didn’t feel like the right fit for me, and I began my search for a job where I could spend more time outdoors. My transition years saw me using my background in the arts to establish a vacation portrait photography business. This is where I first developed my tour guide skills, as the shooting sites were often in touristed areas like theme parks, beaches, or other natural areas, and my clients appreciated background information as we moved between photo spots. Currently, I am also using my photography skills to contribute to the Florida Museum's field research of the rare blue calamintha bee.Since the nature and tour elements of my photography endeavor were more appealing to me than the business and admin tasks, I decided to lean further into those, which led to me building my nature knowledge base by becoming a Florida Master Naturalist through University of Florida. I’ve really enjoyed leading tours and creating interpretation opportunities after taking the naturalist courses, and this led to me becoming an educator at Blue Spring State Park, where I get to teach field trip students and guests of all ages about manatees, fireflies, and more! I have lived in the US, England, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and South Africa, and I have traveled to many other locations within the US, Europe, and Asia. These days, I am very happy to keep most of my adventures more local; I spend much of my free time exploring Florida via hiking, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, cycling, and climbing, and I love sharing my passion for the Sunshine State with others.
