I have been a small business owner, social entrepreneur, strategist, and communicator in Maine for over thirty years, helping bring ideas to life, working with leaders and organizations to achieve their dreams and goals, advising growing businesses, and protecting the character of Maine. I have worked in everything from grassroots organizing to corporate boardrooms. Until the fall of 2017, when I launched my campaign for Governor of Maine as an independent, I wrote a weekly column in the Maine Sunday Telegram and Central Maine Newspapers. I've also authored various publications on topics ranging from the economy to government, the environment, transportation, and telecommunications. My most recent book is "Maine's Next Economy," which is available on Amazon. Prior to that I co-authored the book "Reinventing Maine Government."I grew up in Waterville's south end, in a family of mill workers and farmers. I worked in mills and construction after leaving school in the ninth grade. Later, I was admitted to a one-year Masters Degree program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, on the basis of work I'd done to organize the Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Association, build affordable housing, and expand solar energy in an urban setting.This is my goal for the next stage of my life: to help promote action on climate change and to help unlock Maine's economic potential by assisting the state's entrepreneurs, innovators. and doers.
