Some of my duties included, liaising with relevant stakeholders in the procurement of medical equipment, conducting trials and evaluations, providing clinical and technical support to hospital staff, ensuring an appropriate level of maintenance and repair of the hospital’s medical devices, ensuring compliance with all local policies including Infection Control, Health & Safety and Decontamination. Essential to this role, was the necessity to maintain an accurate up-to-date equipment inventory which enables the department to ensure the hospital achieves the best possible value from its service level agreements and it also allows for the correct distribution of Safety Action Notices and Device Bulletins that are received from regulatory authorities. Maintaining this database also enables better co-ordination of internal and external preventative maintenance contracts which ensures minimum down time of equipment, and can maximise the efficacy of clinical engineering staff without sacrificing the day to day running of the department. With over 1500 individual pieces of medical equipment, this exposure, along with the completion of extensive training at all levels on a large range of medical devices also enables me to provide educational support to clinical staff on medical devices.
