CFD and thermal analysis of battery pack cooling system using ANSYS Fluent

Working as part of the Applied Technologies team I aided in the design of novel heat exchangers using computational fluid dynamics and in-house testing rigs.Projects predominantly were in aerospace/aviation, high-performance motorsport, hypercars, and battery/fuel cell thermal management.

Working as a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineer within a multidisciplinary team • CFD analysis of blood flow and oxygen transport using ANSYS CFX and OpenFOAM (an open-source CFD solver where the interface is a Linux command terminal), • Experience of different imaging modalities: MRI, CT, and Ultrasound,• Grant writing,• First author on a journal paper on imaging modalities in vascular access,• Feasibility reports for future product directions for industrial partners,• C++ coding,• Overseeing MRI scans,• Meeting with volunteers,• Attended statistics course,• Presentations at international conferences and workshops

Used engineering principles from fluid dynamics and thermodynamics to accurately model the blood flow and oxygen transport in four different test cases: 1. A comparison of results from a carotid bifurcation geometry and experimental values 2. A comparison of results from a stented coronary artery geometry and experimental values. 3. Analysis of three different stent designs with geometries extracted from finite element analysis (FEA) results. 4. Analysis of helical-flow-inducing stent designs.Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and numerical methods including FEA and CFD. The oxygen transport was calculated using a scalar transport equation with added complexity of a non-constant diffusivity and variable source/sink term.Python scripts embedded in a visualisation software used to calculate and post-process the results.Biological processes that can result in re-blockage of the artery post-stent implantation reviewed in the publication below.

I was working as part of a design team in the overhead line department. Worked as part of a multidisciplined team on gas pipe-laying projects throughout Ireland using Microstation CAD package and Smallworld geographical information system (GIS).
