I'm a secondary school Spanish teacher. I initially taught English as a foreign language in Spain, Malta, Mexico and in language schools in Limerick and Dublin. During this time I taught students of all ages and backgrounds, as well as working on exam-specific preparation (Trinity GESE and Cambridge PET/FCE), level test development and external Spanish/English translation work for BerryMex-Driscoll's. I have a Professional Master of Education from the University of Galway, an undergraduate degree from the University of Groningen (with an exchange semester at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in Mexico) and an ACELS-approved certificate in English Language Teaching.I recently made the switch from the Department of Education to the LCETB. My philosophy is that languages should be taught through a combination of theory and input, the ratio depending on the learners' needs. Theory can take the form of traditional grammar or mnemonics [my students will tell you all about Stop the Elf and CAROLINA]. Input can take the form of questioning, role plays, language tasks and word games.
