About Dan Johnson

Interested in multimedia platforms for 3D virtual worlds and applications which require 3D rendering/modeling resources. Hardware interfaces of interest include the Cyberith gaming platform, the Oculus Rift, the PrioVR system (17 sensor Pro Developer Suit), and the Leap Motion VR developer tools. Unity 3D and the Unreal gaming engine are also areas of recent study. Java multimedia applications are interest, especially those which use advanced 3D modeling/rendering technologies. Java technologies of interest include J2SE, J2ME, Java3D, JINI, JMF, Android, & JavaFX. Currently using Xcode, Eclipse, Atmel Studio, Qt, and Netbeans IDEs for development. I develop virtual world content and software for HighFidelity.io, Second Life, and OpenSim. I recently installed source code for the HighFidelity project and plan to get more involved in related development projects. I have experience building and configuring OpenSim servers on Ubuntu Linux, Mac OS-X, & Windows platforms. I am also interested in porting OpenSim to ARM based platforms. My VR servers are currently running on Via Technologies Mini-ITX cards and Nvidia Jetson cards. My focus is to develop a small VR appliance (VRMAD) that includes preconfigured environments that require very little configuration input from the end users. Leveraging embedded Java solutions using chips from aJile Systems, Yost Labs, Nvidia, and Imsys Technologies.I have extensive experience porting applications to Mac OS-X, Windows, and various Linux platforms. My broad exposure to operating systems includes; Mac OS-X, Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, CentOS, Android, Chrome OS, Solaris 10. I typically use Java, C, C++, and some TCL/TK & Qt for development projects. Considering Swift for iOS applications.

  • Lexmark International
    Sr. Engineer
    Lexmark International Mar 2005 - Aug 2011
    Lexington, Kentucky, Us
Was a senior engineer responsible for device/process modeling, process characterization, standard cell development, and CMOS design methodologies. Used BSIM Pro for semiconductor device modeling and Cadence VSDE/VCME for timing characterization. Developed the CMOS standard cell family that was being used for ink jet print head development. The cells were compatible with the Cadence Encounter place and route system and support Synopsys and Xilinx flows for synthesis. The cells were also ported to the Tanner place and route tools. Used the Coventor SEMulator3D tools for device structure and standard cell analysis. Participated in RCX/QRC correlation activities using parasitic extraction structures and various circuits for digital performance analysis. Was also responsible for parametric process analysis and monitoring using Spotfire/JMP data analysis software, ChipCentric, and custom Process Control Monitor structures. The group I worked in was part of the Lexmark Imaging Solutions and Services R&D Group which was responsible for new ink jet print head designs and systems.
  • Vrmad 3D Multimedia Platform - Epicenter Technologies
    Founder
    Vrmad 3D Multimedia Platform - Epicenter Technologies Mar 2002 - Jun 2004
Designed a Java based broadband multimedia VR platform and teamed with five partners to pursue venture capital funding for the project. Developed the business plan, product specifications, technical presentations, and marketing support material. Conducted research on product components, Java processors, software APIs, manufacturing resources, and competing technologies. Developed and submitted patent applications and support material as needed. Made the hardware architecture for the VR platform public after development funds were exhausted.
