About Eric Pugh

My whole adult life I’ve been trying to change the world through open source software. In 2019 I had the epiphany that it’s not just enough to have open source alternatives to commercial solutions, you also need to share the knowledge on how to use those alternatives with your community! Today, most ecommerce companies don’t have the deep pockets to hire large teams to build up their ecommerce search initiatives, so they are forced to outsource search to someone else. I’m focused on building an open source alternative that combines both technology and methodology to let digital commerce teams grow and own their search solutions. That's why I’m invested in the Chorus project, which brings together some leading open source search & relevancy tools into a single cohesive stack for ecommerce search.I know a bit about open source, as a member of the Apache Software Foundation, and a lot about search, as an active committer to Apache Solr and co-author of Apache Solr Enterprise Search Server, now in its third edition. Oh, and I steward Quepid, an open source platform for assessing and improving your search relevance.
