I am in a unique position where I get to oversee and influence two distinctly different departments which have traditionally been at loggerheads: Engineering and Sales. My education and training steered me towards a career in engineering. My life experiences and college jobs (primarily bar-tending) prepared me for the people management and customer-centric approach needed in the realm of sales. I avoid one of the major pitfalls of management (design skill atrophy) by personally leading the engineering design on at least a couple of projects per year. I was born in Colombo (Sri Lanka), raised in Dubai (UAE) and have lived in the South-eastern United States since I was eighteen. “Global” and “multi-cultural” aren’t buzz words to me - they’re a part of my DNA. I have been fortunate in my career to visit and work with a wide range of customers from all corners of North America, Asia and Europe. Being able to navigate sensitive cultural touchstones while still maintaining clarity of technical and commercial communication has contributed greatly to my overall success.I also maintain a firm belief that a vital part of my success is based off eschewing traditional “sales speak” and instead building personal relationships with my customers. I pride myself in the trust shown to me by both my customers and my various teams. Assisting a customer with a challenging application or leading team members through a tenuous economy requires clear communication and transparency. When this can be accomplished without losing sight of company goals and performance accountability, a robust and sound workforce will follow.
