Telemetry Unit- Winthrop University Hospital I am currently a RN on a 28 bed acute care telemetry unit caring for 6-7 acute patients. I practice the use of clinical expertise to plan the delivery of safe, therapeutic, population-specific patient care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation with the patient and family central to the care. I provide care to patients with CHF who have had an MI, pre and post Cath and EP procedures, along with many other cardiac related issues and co-morbidities. I work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to promote wellness and optimize patient outcomes. I promote leadership to the team by orienting, mentoring and managing team members to assure that quality care is delivered with compassion, dignity and respect as well as efficiency I also participate in unit/department/institutional performance improvement activities that impact patient/family and service outcomes based on professional practice standards such as the Educational Nursing Council and Peer Safety Review Board.

With an everlasting interest in the Emergency Department I chose to work at NYU during my preceptorship for nursing school. I quickly learned to assess and manage 7 patients at a time, obtain their history, initiate IV's and begin medical treatment.

The goal of the program is to allow nursing students to explore the wide variety of nursing care opportunities organized through Nursing Education. I followed a nurse's schedule working 7am-7pm.The beneficial part of this externship was to explore the different units for a period of time to assist with developing a particular field of interest. I spent two weeks in each, Emergency Department, Orthopedics, and N.I.C.U. I also spent additional days in the Cardiac unit, PACU, Radiation/oncology, and CCU.

In this position I provided patient care by administering Nutritional supplements, emotional guidance and support, as well as physical assistance during both recreational and medical applications. I also provided oral care, bathing and dressing of patient, toileting of patients and catheter care assistance. Vital signs: Blood pressure, pulse, and temperature monitoring. Answering call lights etc.

Managed daily sales activity by providing associate financial positions, dealing with clerical errors, and instinctively and quickly attending to associate issues. Major responsibility included efficient flow of point of sale registers, maintaining critical and competitive client satisfaction.
