Manage all design, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing. Design parts for prototyping and full-scale production.

Design and fabricate prototype devices for FDA compliant bacterial food screening. Coordinate with one other designer to develop parts minimize complexity and reduce manufacturing costs on the full assembly for injection molding. Consult with manufacturing companies to prototype components for testing. Provide systems engineering consultation to optimize user workflow and reduce assembly and operational time.

Manage the hardware, software, and design teams, with consistently over 20 simultaneous projects and 30-40 student team members. Manage all client interactions, hold regular internal design reviews, and interview and hire student staff. Create all project tracking and design curriculum to train design engineers and project managers. Manage project backlog with a modified Agile workflow generalized for hardware development. Mentor students in academic and career decisions. Design clients include NASA UAS, JHU APL, NOAA, Northrop Grumman, and NRL.

Operated and maintained over 60 consumer grade FDM/FFF 3D printers in the UMD MakerBot Innovation Center. Operated and maintained a Fortus 400mc FDM 3D printer, Objet30 Pro and Objet500 Connex3 PolyJet 3D printers, a ProX 200 DMLS printer, and a NanoScribe Photonic Professional GT DLW printer. Developed policies and practices around the use of these machines. Characterized and provided client consultations on the capabilities of these machines, as well as other additive and subtractive manufacturing methods.

Tested and maintained consumer grade FDM/FFF 3D printers for use in ENES100 - the introductory engineering design course at the University of Maryland. Designed and fabricated modifications to increase the reliability and functionality of the printers. Developed all CAD and 3D printing related curriculum for the course. Designed a 3D printable electric car with geared drivetrain that could be recreated and assembled by students. Developed SOP for the course related 3D printers and created video content to teach students proper use of the machines. Trained other staff on proper maintenance techniques.

Design and fabricate micro-scale structures through the use of a Nanoscribe direct laser writing printer to mechanically simulate the behavior of electronic circuitry components including diodes, capacitors, inductors, and transistors.

Design and construct system-wide prototypes for a novel oyster farming method. Perform structural analysis of preliminary design concepts through FEA and physical trials. Design and prototype sub-systems for prolonged exposure to salt water. Perform structural analysis of bolt circles and flanges to aid in development of ASTM design guidelines.

Design and fabricate mechanisms for research in neurocognitive architecture using multi-level mental simulation in trainable autonomous systems. Design projects include: • Add radial motion capability to the gripper of a Baxter robot • Design specialized actuators that enable the robot to grasp specific structures • Construct and continually modify a simulated disk drive maintainance dock

Design the mechanical structure for a portable ankle rehabilitation robot. Prototype and perform structural analysis on mechanical components through FEA and physical trials. Design structure to enable backdrivable impedance-controlled actuation. Develop quick-disconnect mechanical linkages to couple actuators and retention components.

Designed and prototyped components and assemblies for consumer-grade fused deposition modeling 3D printers. Communicated with manufacturing companies about component sourcing. Designed components for injection molding. Provide overall design guidance and advice. Tested, selected, and configured outsourced sub-systems for prototypes and production.
