I'm an anthropologist who is interested in 'things military', privatized and/ or militarized security (in the Israeli context), nationalism, borders, and more. I have done research on the moralities of Israeli soldiers in the Occupied Territories and for the last few years I have studied the Israeli global security industry. Currently I'm working on a project on militant social movements with dr. Nir Gazit. I teach anthropology of conflict and violence and courses on the Middle East, Power and Identity and Qualitative Research Methods.I'm a member of the Works Council of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural science and I'm the vice-president of the Central Works Council of the University of Amsterdam.

My dissertation is about moral issues of Israeli soldiers in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. I've done fieldwork in Israel where i interviewed (ex) soldiers. My goal is to unfold the way they look at their surroundings and behaviour in moral terms, i.e. an anthropological approach to the field of military ethics. I want to gain deeper understanding of the many factors that contribute to the (mis)behaviour of soldiers.
