“Advancement need not cost us the planet. Nor does progress need adversely impact human lives and well-being”.I have borrowed and slightly paraphrased the two statements above. However, these statements are a good summary of what motivates me as a Sustainability, Health, Safety and Environment professional. For over 10 years, I have worked across multiple industry sectors to implement real-world and value add solutions for challenges in the sustainability, HS&E spaces. Leveraging available and cutting-edge technology has often played an important factor in my successes.Some noteworthy examples of solutions that I have worked on are listed by industry sector below:- Automotiveo I supported the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership UK to carry out a LCA study on the carbon performance of passenger car technologies. The study involved managing inputs and views from a range of stakeholders including oil and gas producers, automotive manufactures, biofuel producers, energy producers etc. The results of the study were used to inform recommendations for the UK 2050 Carbon Reduction Targets. - Fast Moving Consumer Goodso I collaborated with a major UK FMCG brand to formulate a sustainable supply chain policy. Finalising this policy involved setting up and chairing several working groups with clusters of internal and external suppliers, aligning issues with relevant legislation and standards and bringing these all together to tie in with the FMCG brand’s corporate sustainability strategy. The policy has since evolved with the times but formed the backbone of many of the brand’s corporate sustainability supply chain initiatives. - Mining:o I worked in conjunction with Sustainability & Social Development Senior Leadership Team at an international mining conglomerate to formulate and implement strategy to combat resistance to change to a new global HSSE platform. As part of the strategy implementation, I travelled to several of the company’s sites in Latin America and Africa to directly influence key stakeholders, demonstrate the strengths of the said new platform and win their confidence. I have a consultative approach to carrying out my job; always putting the clients' needs first and trying to fully appreciate the clients' situations before proposing the most suitable solution. I look forward to continuing to be that trusted adviser, who gets things done.
