20/20 vision is a treasure that not everyone is granted in this lifetime. I learned the valueof this statement in my formative years in the back of my fourth-grade classroom struggling tomake out what my teacher was writing on the board. From experience I already knew I was avisual learner but how is that possible with an incapability in my vision? My entire family struggled with vision problems so it was inevitable for me once it started; having yearly checkups with my optometrist gave me an opportunity to build a strong connection with her especially since every time I visited my vision would be worse than the last time she always assured me that I would be okay and that I was not alone as shestruggled with her vision as well. With an associate in science and well as an anticipated bachelor in biology with a concentration in biomedical science by May 2024, I feel well-prepared for an optometric assistant position. I am passionate about helping a young child who is in the same shoes I was in that fourth gradeclassroom and I want to help them never feel what I felt. I have worked a handful of jobs whileattending early college as well as university so I have a plethora of experience with customerservice and connecting with them on a personal level so they would be more inclined to comeback. Another value I bring to the table is I am a bi-racial female mixed with African-Americanand Native American and back home I do not see many people of color in the optometry field, sobringing diversity to the table will give me a boost in connecting with other people of color andshowing them that not only do people of color prosper in this field but females do as well.
