My current occupation at Village Green is an all-encompassing position, which requires me to handle both maintenance and customer service needs. As an employee in the apartment maintenance field, we are required to perform several duties related to the cleaning, coloring, and other various tasks for apartments. Maintenance Techs are responsible for diagnosing and resolving different problems in an apartment complex. Repairing air conditioning systems, fixing electrical switches, unclogging drains, checking fluid levels, replacing machine parts, and other tasks are just part of what I do on a daily basis. I also perform regular preventative maintenance tasks to make sure that buildings do not deteriorate and the unit is functioning smoothly. We are the face of the company. We have to go into the task at hand knowing that the customer is less than pleased at the moment. Frustration can come to a head, offensive things can be said at times, but it is up to me to compartmentalize and focus on my job, which is making the customer happy. Knowing that I have kept a calm demeanor in a high pressure situation, resolved an issue for a client, and possibly saved a patron of the company is what keeps me coming back to work everyday. I hope to further my career with a position in sales someday, and build on the people skills this job has given me. As a Maintenace Tech, I learned what it was to work hard. I dealt directly with customers to handle resident service requests and work orders, correcting the situation within 24 hours, when possible. When not possible, I explained exactly what was going to hold the job up and made sure the customer understood, and tried to make them as happy as possible, given the circumstances. I am available to stay late when the next man is thinking about dinner with his family. I can work weekends when he is thinking about how he promised his children to take them to the zoo.
