About Eric Andre

Hello! I’m an early-career civil engineer in Denver, Colorado. I have a broad range of technical skills learned both from college coursework and my time as an intern in the North Carolina DOT’s traffic engineering department. I also have a wealth of soft skills from my previous career as a Japanese technical translator. At NCSU I gained a broad range of experience, but my strongest subjects were traffic engineering and land development, which was the topic of my senior design capstone. I’m proud to say that our team’s design was top of the class. We worked closely with a Raleigh-area firm called McAdams to create a comprehensive development & construction plan for a 20-acre residential neighborhood.I was inspired to change careers after experiencing the 2011 Fukushima earthquake in person while I was teaching English in northern Japan; going through that experience helped me decide to move into civil engineering, because it seemed like the best way I could help create safer infrastructure.

Listed skills include Proofreading, Copy Editing, Teaching, Translation, and 8 others.

I worked with the localization PM, and together we collaborated with multiple departments including marketing, engineering, the factory floor, and overseas translators. Day to day I proofread materials before and after translation to check for technical and formatting errors, and had changes made through Philips’ document control system. I also initiated and tracked translation requests with outside contractors using SDL TMS, a system I helped implement. I also did Japanese translations myself when called for. Occasionally I was called on to do product testing to assess ease of use and accuracy of translations.
