I am on the faculty of Computer Science department at the University of Arizona teaching classes to undergraduates.

I'm an on call consultant working on occasional programming projects and giving general computer advice and help.

I worked as a contractor for the Pima County Justice court working on their conversion to a new data base. I first did the new web interface, and later came back to work on fixing bad data, improving/fixing some of the code for processing data, and calculating statistics. The web work involved HTML, JavaScript, Visual Basic, and SQL. Almost all the other work was done in SQL.

Do computer work in support of the scientific mission of Southwest Watershed Research center. This mostly involves programming, but also participation in writing papers and data analysis. I've done a lot of work on the acquisition, checking, and storing data as well as making it available for download. I've done some work with simulation, particularly statistical weather simulation. I've done some image processing and a good amount of web programming.

Ran a computer consulting company which did work in setting up networks for small companies, trouble shooting home and business computers, freelance programming, and giving general computer help, advice, and suggestions.

Was the systems administrator for Southwest Watershed esearch Center. Managed network and servers (mail, file, database, web, DNS, etc.) and provided help desk type services for the site (about 50 users). Supervised programmers and was in charge of equipment purchase and installation. Headed the Data Access Project, which automated the gathering of atmospheric data from probes, parsing and putting it in a data base, quality checking the data, and making it accessible to the public via a searchable web interface. Work involved Windows and Unix systems using SQL, Visual Basic, ASP, and ASP .NET.

Worked on the Common Simulation Framework program. This was an effort to standardize the simulation software across the missile programs to improve reliability, reduce training required to move between programs, and encourage software reuse. Also was a member of the MAPS team that had a similar effort to standardize the software architecture embedded in the missiles themselves. Work was done in C++ on Linux systems, and UML (Rational Rose) on Windows NT systems

Worked on the ImageScan system, a program to automatically scan microscope slides, saving images, and searching for cells of interest. Redesigned the data structures and rewrote the program to work on multiple slides. Designed and implemented the algorithm to automatically focus the microscope for low-light, fluorescent images. Did the pattern recognition work, designing and implementing a segmentation program and neural net combination to identify and mark the target cells. Work was done in Visual Basic and Visual C++ on Windows NT systems.

Worked on the Fragment Assembly Kernel, a program for DNA fragment assembly. Work included designing and implementing the routines for multiple sequence alignment. Thesis work on algorithms for whole genome shotgun sequencing. Work was done in C on Solaris and Unix systems. (Note that there was an 8 month break from this position in 1999 when I worked with my adviser at Celera Genomics.)

Was a member of the Informatics Research group. Contributed to the design and implementation of the assembly program used for Whole Genome Shotgun Sequencing. This program is part of an effort by Celera Genomics to be the first to sequence the Human Genome. Work was done in C on Unix systems

Worked on the Decision Support System, a program to help farmers best manage their land based on economics and water and soil conservation. Designed and implemented the section on land usage. Work was done in C, using Motif on Solaris systems.

Taught one class a semester. Classes taught included College Algebra, Business Math, Calculus I, II, and III.

Programmed the computers that gather and decipher information from probes attached to the engines being tested. Was in charge of implementing the program to input the desired test parameters from the aeronautical engineers. Work was done in FORTRAN on PDP 11s.

Part of the applications team of the Cedar super computer project. Did some work on implementing mathematical algorithms across multiple processors. Work was done in FORTRAN on Unix systems.

Designed and implemented custom database programs for small businesses. Work was done in dBase on CP/M and MSDOS systems. This was an ongoing summer job while I was in school.
