I’m SFC Eric H. Arellano, and I grew up in Tahoka, Texas, a one-stoplight town in the Texas Panhandle. I joined the Army on 14 August 2001, attending OSUT as an 11X(general infantryman) at Ft Benning, Georgia. On 11 September 2001, I started basic training and specialized as an 11C(infantry morterman). My first duty assignment was at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. I was serving with 1/27 Wolfhounds 25th Infantry Division. As a Corporal, I was a base gunner for the 60mm mortar section. In May 2002, I was injured during joint taskforce training with the Thai Queen Army. After my Military Medical Reclassification Board, I was given the opportunity to re-class to a 68P(Radiology Technologist).My first medical assignment was at the Department of Radiology, B Company, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. I served as NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge) of the MRI section and the mobile unit at Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center. My next transfer was to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX as an Instructor/Writer for the 24-week Phase 1 portion of the tri-service Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Radiology Specialist Course. Within the position, I gave lectures on physics, demonstrated radiology positioning, supervised and evaluated 720 Army, Navy, and Air Force students per year, with the ultimate goal of academic success. My next assignment was at Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, CO, where I was the only PACS administrator for a multi-modality full service Radiology Department and later became the NCOIC of the Radiology Diagnostic section and the Command Financial NCO and Hospital Equal Opportunity Leader. My latest station is at Ft Detrick, MD, where I serve as a multi-facet project manager for DICOM based systems, managing multi-million dollar product selection, installation, and maintenance contracts.
