Dr. Eric BECKER is a senior associate professor at the Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology Paris, Metz campus, in the Design, Manufacturing and Control Laboratory, LCFC, Department of Manufacturing and Forming since 2010. He obtained his PhD in Science and Engineering in 2008, speciality "Mechanics and Materials", thesis "Experimental and numerical investigations for the identification of key parameters of the steel thixoforging process on the shaped product". In 2009, he was qualified as a senior lecturer in Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry of Materials. For the past 15 years, his research has focused on modelling the product-process interactions of innovative manufacturing processes such as thixoforging, shaped in the semi-solid state of metal alloys, since 2006, and more recently, since 2015, of oriented long-fibre solid C/Thermoplastic composites. The aim is to find, develop, improve and model innovative processes or procedures enabling the increase of product characteristics (e.g.: i. electromagnetic and geometrical near-net shape thixoforged polar wheel, ii. increase the specific effort, composite structural part, reduce the steps of the manufacturing process (part with complex geometry, wheel spindle, thixoforged in 1 step vs. 7 forged). It is a change of paradigm in manufacturing processes, not to replace conventional processes and procedures, but to reach areas of realisation and quality that were not achievable until now. The context of its research work, from TRL2 to 5, is industrialisation. This means that the investigations and areas of progress are designed to transfer the knowledge to an industrial environment. In this context, it also provides scientific and technological supervision of five industrial projects, four on thixoforging and one since 2015 on the shaping of massive composites. All of his work, between 2006 and 2024, is the subject of 24 papers referenced in SCOPUS, most of them on the subject of semi-solid forming of metal alloys and thixoforging. Its research work, in partnership with industry, has also led to the registration of 6 patents, 2 on thixoforging and 5 on the shaping of massive composites with SETFORGE Company. This research work is also the subject of several international collaborations with the IAM and IHM KIT University of Karlsruhe Germany, IFKB University of Stuttgart Germany, USTB University of Beijing China, ULG University of Liege Belgium, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca Romania, LAMCOS INSA Lyon of Lyon France and University of Annaba Algeria.
