Senior Director, Network Engineering
Reporting directly to the CIO, I am primarily responsible for all aspects of corporate and production network services for multiple businesses in the US and abroad. These services include remote access, secure tunnels, application load-balancing, and technical perimeter security at IAC Publishing. I also develop the network engineering roadmap to decommission sites and related services due to divestiture of businesses and help drive plans to migrate production services to the cloud.I routinely work with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Asset Management, Security, and Vendor Management teams within the businesses to help bridge gaps between the technical and the business sides of the house.Other functions include:• Leading by example!• Operational excellence• Communicating to C-level executive leaders• Confidently lead, direct, and prioritize operations during incidents• Global talent acquisition, training, and retention of a cutting-edge network team• Deliver reliably high quality and robust network services to the business• Develop and maintain relationships with peer and client service owners• Budget forecast and strategy• Cloud, corporate, and data center networking• DDoS detection, mitigation, and analysis
Director, Network Engineering
After managing and growing the global team over a few years, my role expanded and as the Director, Network Engineering for IAC Publishing I tackled an ever-growing set of challenges and responsibilities. We immediately began the assimilation of production and corporate network sites introduced into our environment as a result of acquisitions – Pricerunner, Investopedia, and Ask.fm. This effort involved teams from multiple companies across seven countries and markedly increased the size and complexity of the network footprint.Directing the team required developing a global strategy for network engineering and administration, new policies, integration of new office and data center environments, and managing network operations, forecast and budget. I built and maintained relationships with peer leaders in IT, operations, engineering, and other business leaders to support the growth and expansion at IAC Publishing all with a mind to positively influencing the direction and decisions undertaken by the businesses. With successfully accomplished rollouts of new technology and platforms for firewalls and application load balancers, DDoS detection and mitigation, remediation of newly acquired networks, and tackling life with locations inside mainland China—which presented unique challenges—we started the divestiture of some businesses.
Manager, Network Engineering
For two years, I managed the US Network Engineering team in California which was responsible for all aspects of data center and office networking (LAN/WAN, firewall, remote access, and network security including DDOS mitigation, etc.). I then took the team global by assuming ownership and all responsibility for international network operations for offices and data centers. Around the same time, I embarked on a mission to overhaul our global network architecture—physical and logical. The end result after many ISP contract and vendor negotiations, I succeeded in lowering our recurring costs, vastly increased capacity, improved resiliency, and lowered the number and impact of network incidents overall. I used this improvement as a springboard to implement a superior work-life balance (by moving from a strict on-call rotation to regional shift schedules); thereby, I improved team morale, enriched internal communication, and increased outreach to our customer base.
