About Eric Bergman
Leader in applying human factors engineering, usability engineering, user research, user experience design (UX), and related activities across a wide range of product domains, technologies, and users. Extensive experience developing medical products, mobile platforms and applications, and desktop and web applications. Past responsibilities included ranged from interaction design to user research and ethnography to structured usability testing, as well as accessibility and standards development. Conceived and edited Information Appliances & Beyond (2000), one of the first books about interaction design for interactive consumer products. In late 2022 I moved to a new role focused on front-end innovation strategy and concept development for future products. Before that, I led the US human factors engineering team for the global R&D home therapies organization at Fresenius Medical Care for products including hardware, software, and disposables.I was previously Director of the Human Factors team at Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Solutions (LifeScan, Animas, and Calibra). In addition, I consulted across J&J for Ethicon, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics and Janssen Pharmaceuticals on products ranging from consumer drug delivery devices to hospital lab instruments. Product users ranged from children to adults of every age as well as caregivers and healthcare professionals. This diverse population made for fascinating user research and design challenges.Record of cross-disciplinary leadership and collaboration. Strengths in identifying and resolving problems through direct and delegated action, and by communicating requirements, issues, and solutions through clear written and verbal communication.I enjoy collaborating with teams to drive user-centered design. I don't view creation of compelling user experience as the sole responsibility of any one discipline, and it is informed by many. The challenge is to get into the process very early -- to understand users, their context, and their needs. This is especially critical in the medical device domain where risk management implications must be considered in everything we do.Specialties include: Leadership, Team Management, Innovation, Human Factors Engineering, Usability Engineering, User Research, Medical Devices, Healthcare, Digital Health, Formative usability studies and HF Validation testing, User Experience Design (UX), Consumer & Mobile Products, Accessibility for People with Disabilities, Risk Management, IEC 62366-1, ANSI/AAMI HE75, FDA regulatory requirements
Listed skills include User Experience, User Centered Design, Usability Testing, Human Computer Interaction, and 42 others.
