Fault Protection Systems Engineer For Self-Driving Car
As a member of the Fault Protection Systems Engineering team, I owned the development and validation of faulted vehicle behaviors. While a departure from aerospace engineering, this was a great opportunity to work on a highly complex, safety-critical system while having to meet consumer-facing product requirements. Furthermore, the continuous iteration environment created the need to automate and coordinate efforts in the development, validation, and operations phases concurrently. As a cross-disciplinary systems engineer, I worked with team members across the entire company. I developed a deep understanding of the many individual components within the entire self driving product, including the driverless software, on-board hardware, base vehicle behaviors, communication methods, specific road and environment nuances, and the overall operations flow. Additionally, we were continuously collecting data in various phases of operations, which required that my data analysis and validation processes were efficient and automated, where possible. I also created three Waymo-centric systems engineering classes that were attended by over 50 engineers in the Systems Engineering group. These were attended by both new and existing team members alike.
Project Manager For Arkyd-6
As the project manager, I led a team of 25 engineers through Integration and Test, Delivery, and Operations of Arkyd-6. This effort included maintaining the overall schedule, coordinating final milestones, leading multiple reviews, and coordinating with all regulatory and external interfaces. During the final months prior to delivery, I also lead multiple spacecraft anomalies through resolution. Overall, I ensured that the spacecraft, the team, and the appropriate regulatory agencies were ready to launch and operations of the Arkyd-6 spacecraft. After launch in January 2018, I lead a team of 12 spacecraft operators. As a team, we successfully commissioned and operated Arkyd-6 for six weeks, until the de facto shutdown of the company.
Senior Systems Engineer On Arkyd-6
As the Senior Systems Engineer on Arkyd 6, I coordinated detailed design of various elements, and built the first testbed with all major hardware components. This enabled early system-level testing of hardware, software, and operations elements. I also developed and executed simultaneous integration and test schedule for two Arkyd-6 spacecraft, including component integration, system testing, and environment test campaign.
Systems Engineer On Low Density Supersonic Decelerator (Ldsd)
As an EDL systems engineer, I lead the entire technology and trajectory reconstruction effort for the Supersonic Flight Dynamics Test (SFDT) for LDSD. This included flight hardware and flight software validation campaigns, as well as post-processing tool validation to ensure valid and valuable output after each flight. I lead this effort across three NASA centers, and coordinated with appropriate external vendors for various data inputs.
Systems Engineer On Mars Science Laboratory (Msl)
As the surface development and operations engineer on MSL, I lead multiple surface testbed Operational Readiness Tests, which helped the entire team prepare for Surface Operations. I also developed multiple tool flows that enabled quick data analysis. After landing, I supported MSL operations as the Downlink Strategic Systems chair and as the Engineering Uplink Lead.
Systems Engineer On Moonrise Proposal
Managed and reviewed all documentation, including coordinating the interface between the engineering and documentation teams, to submit a clear and consistent proposal for a NASA New Frontiers competition.
Undergraduate Teaching Fellow For Department Of Mechanical Engineering
• Lectured undergraduate classes on green engineering practices • Held office hours for undergraduate students to help with concepts, projects, homework and testpreparation
Research Controls Intern
X-48B Blended Wing Body Research Aircraft • Designed and analyzed mass moments of inertia test for the X-48B aircraft • Created MATLAB processes to catalog maneuvers and conditions during flight tests
Undergraduate Research Fellow
• Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship through Undergraduate Research Office • Led a lunar dust mitigation research initiative and conducted lunar lander egress testing
