Terrain management included assessing avalanchehazard conditions and safe glacier travel while on slope, run assessment and routeplanning while in flight on short time intervals, and dictating and creating landing zonesand pickup zones for close proximity landings. VHF radio communication was used withhelicopter pilots and operation dispatch for logistics and status reports. UHF radios areused in the field with clients to communicate safe travel routes and slope reactions. AMand PM meetings occurred every operational day with weather, snow, terrain, and clientassessment forms completed for operational clarity and safety. Crevasse rescue andavalanche response practice occurs weekly. Other duties included company operationplanning and tasking relating to all aspects of season logistics such as daily operation andclient care.My position also included operating as safety and operations manager for the NaturalSelection Tour snowboard competition. I managed the 23-structure glacier camp build andsafety guided for the 2022 event in the Tordrillo Mountains with guiding and supportoperations based out of Winterlake Lodge. For the 2023 event, I became the operationalmanager and lead guide of the Natural Selection Tour Alaska competition based out ofValdez. As operational manager and lead guide I planned and coordinated all aspects ofthe NST event with NST staff and Pulseline Adventure staff. This included helicopter andpersonnel logistics, site selection and safety, and general scheduling. -
Supervisory Wildlife TechnicianNational Park Service Apr 2017 - PresentGlacier National ParkDuties from 2018-2021 primarily focused on performing and supervising mountain goatfield research within GNP. This included managing logistics and leading mountain goatcaptures and behavioral observations. Daily activities required being able to hike 20 +miles a day in rough and remote terrain while supervising staff personnel. I capturedgoats with clover traps and remote delivery systems, depending on locations. Drugs thatwere used for anesthesia include Carfentanil, Thianil, Xylazine, and Ketamine withreversal drugs of Naltrexone and Yohimbine. Capture procedure included collaring,drawing blood, ear tagging, pulling hair, recording body measurements, and obtainingfecal samples while maintaining body vitals and oxygen saturation. Centrifuges wereused after captures to obtain plasma and samples were sent off for disease testing. In 2019I took a Wildlife Handling and Chemical Immobilization for Wildlife Professionals classpresented by Wolf Haven International to further my understanding of capture andhandling. Other tasks included writing grant proposals, wildlife infrastructure projectmanagement, sampling and shipping biological samples for disease testing, includingCWD, conducting radio telemetry, project logistic management, GIS GPS collar analysisand mapping, and using Microsoft Word and Excel for publications and databasemanagement. Additional duties included grizzly and black bear captures andmanagement, mountain goat hazing operations and management, harlequin duck captures,and working with park rangers as a National Park Service EMT and swift water specialist.SAR, TSAR, EMS, and Swift Water training occur annually. -
Wildlife And Firearm Safety ManagerWhitecap Risk & Safety Consultants Apr 2022 - Aug 2022AlaskaAs the Wildlife and Firearm Safety Manager I created, implemented, and maintainedsafety protocols regarding wildlife and firearms for a reality TV show (The Race toSurvive: Alaska) produced by Original Productions in Alaska. Wildlife management wascentered on bear safety for the cast and crew which included creating and deliveringwildlife safety training, overseeing proper bear safety gear procurement includingfirearms, documenting wildlife encounters, and maintaining a safe working environmentfrom potentially hazardous wildlife (bears). Firearm management included procurement offirearms (12 GA shotguns and high powered rifle) and accessories, creating and deliveringfirearm safety training for crew, maintaining firearms, and distributing and trackingfirearms throughout the show. While my main role was the Wildlife and Firearm SafetyManager I also acted as water safety, general safety, and medical safety when appropriateand advised on logistics and operational management. Multiple types of crafts were usedthroughout the production including helicopters, bush planes, zodiacs, water landingcrafts, 4-wheelers, kayaks, rafts, and more.
