I performed analysis on lifeboat arrangement for an accommodation rig, loading conditions and longitudinal strength calculations of a modified oil tanker and aided with two deadweight surveys. Responsibilities included constant communication with senior Naval Architects regarding status of projects and discussing technical procedures. This also involved raising instantaneous queries if I had doubts about how to conduct work. I found this attitude gave colleagues confidence in work practices and I gained more responsibility as a consequence. Show less

The key role was conducting research on optimisation and standardisation of fender design for all Damen vessels. My main duty was to liaise with engineers from various departments developing a conceptual idea of how to build a MATLAB tool to select fenders. I worked on various work vessels such as tugs, multi-cats and offshore support vessels as a deckhand. Projects I was involved in was anchor handling for a jack-up barge for wind farm construction in Belgium, coastal towing of pipelines from Dubai to Iraq and offshore support vessel for land to sea drilling off the Norfolk coast. My responsibilities was general deck work using cranes and winches as well as maintenance and watch keeping. My responsibilities was general deck work using cranes and winches as well as maintenance and watch keeping. The vessels were generally under 25m so the crew was small but from various backgrounds and nationalities. Working in a dangerous environment means ensuring all crew are always safe and looking out for one and another, I found it very easy to communicate and work alongside people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Being able to adapt to different cultures and working methods helped strengthen bonds as well as be a valuable member of the team. Show less
