The Flinders Ranges Council is a rural Council in Northern South Australia. Located 300 km north of Adelaide, The Flinders Ranges Council area extends from Mount Brown Creek and Pichi Richi pass in the south to Arkaba in the north, a distance in excess of 100 kilometres. It takes in the western side of the Flinders Ranges to near Carrieton and Cradock in the East a distance of approximately 45 kilometres. In total it is 4,198 square kilometres of the magical Flinders Ranges. The townships of Quorn, Hawker and Cradock service the council area.

Cook Shire Council is a large rural Council, covering a significant geographic area (the size of Victoria) in one of the remotest areas in Australia. The Glen Innes Severn Council is a large rural Council in Northern New South Wales, Council provides standard Council services as well as having two utility businesses (water and sewer) and a large Community Services section. Council is also responsible for providing aged and disability services, and has a large Commercial Venture (a commercial quarry).The position of Chief Financial Officer at the Glen Innes Severn Council is the most senior financial position within the organisational structure (promoted from Financial Accountant to Manager of Finance to Chief Financial Officer at Council);The organisation has over 180 staff members and a budget of up to $40million per annum ($25 million in operational and $15 million in capital works);The position is responsible for all financial advice and provides the organisation (and the elected Council) with direction and strategic advice [with particular focus on the Long Term Financial Plan (10 year plan), Operational Budget (1 year budget) and Delivery Program (4 year plan/budget)];The Chief Financial Officer supervises Council’s business services, including: long term financial planning, financial and management accounting and reporting,  rating and revenue,  stores and stock management including purchasing and procurement,  accounts receivable, accounts payable,  information technology,  commercial and community property, customer service functions; and, oversees Council’s annual external audit and responsible for all annual financial statutory reporting under the Local Government Act (NSW) 1993.
