Eric Calais is a Professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris at Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris. He possess expertise in science, gps, seismology, research, statistics and 15 more skills. It is based, primarily, on results from GPS measurements that his group initiated in 2003. These measurements tell us how fast seismic fault lines are building up energy, to be released in earthquakes to come. For instance, his group indicated in a 2008 report that the Enriquillo fault was ready for a magnitude 7.2 event, which unfortunately proved to be quite accurate. Even though this work does not provide timing or precise location for earthquakes (no science can do this at the moment), it does provide key information (probability of a given ground motion) that engineers and planners can use for earthquake preparedness and mitigation. My recommendation for all who are interested in a viable Haiti would be to consider solid technical data such as in this report (please visit: http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2010/1067/pdf/of20101067.pdf) and ensure all feasible efforts are made to prepare Haiti to face successfully all the challenges it faces, especially as hurricane season approaches."
