About Eric Chong
Curious-natured PhD candidate in my final year at the University of Pennsylvania looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Currently engaged with my research projects with passion, I approach every problem faced in my work with a good balance of creativity and practicality. With over 5 years of research experience as a physicist, I have self-learned and developed skills demanded in the various projects that I was involved in. Some of these include:• Software development using C and C++ for data acquisition system and big data processing• Firmware designing on FPGA and system-on-chip architectures• Statistical data analysis using C++ and Python in high energy physics analysis• Familiarity with Linux environment and software deployment using containersI get excited and passionate about opportunities where I get to learn new things and at the same time, be able to incorporate my own expertise and knowledge. Aimed with leadership experience on several research projects, I hope to get involved with opportunities in areas such as data analytics, fintech, machine learning, software development and firmware development upon graduation in fall 2025.I love connecting with people passionate about their work or would like to share new and exciting ideas! Current- SuperFGD detector expert for T2K experiment.
- Primary coordinator of SuperFGD commissioning conducted in Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex for installation in the ND280 complex for the T2K experiment.
- Primary coordinator of vertical slice test conducted in University of Geneva for SuperFGD electronics which is used in the ND280 upgrade for T2K experiment.
- Designed firmware together with data acquisition and slow control software interface for the Optical Concentrator Board which is used in the ND280 upgrade for T2K experiment.
- Analyzed neutron data taken with the same prototype detectors in December 2019 at Los Alamos National Lab for a neutron total cross section measurement on plastic scintillator.
- Primary coordinator of neutron test beam run in December 2020 at Los Alamos National Lab using prototype detectors based on the near detector used in the T2K upgrade.
