Physical Scientist
CurrentProvides scientific and engineering judgment in nuclear and conventional weapons effects, equipment fragility and battle damage assessments as related to strategic Hardened Deeply Buried Targets (HDBT), Command, Control, Communications, Computers, & Intelligence (C4I) and underground facilities. Formulates, plans, and conducts world-class scientific and technical research and development (R&D) in the areas of seismic, acoustic, electromagnetic, multispectral/hyper-spectral R&D related to identifying, characterizing, targeting and assessing battle damage to adversary C4I and WMD facilities. Conceives, plans and manages world-class scientific and technical R&D and mission critical component analysis to identify and quantify foreign system vulnerabilities. Uses US intelligence systems to develop and execute a national collection strategy for identification, characterization, targeting and battle damage assessments (BDAs) of HDBT, C4I, and WMD underground facilities. Leads and oversees a National Response Team performing highly scientific and specialized assessments for Combatant Commands on HDBT, C4I, and WMD facilities. Supports Joint Readiness Exercises and Command Post Exercises for planning attacks against HDBT, C4I, and WMD facilities. Represents DTRA on multi-agency committees developing Science and Technology strategies for identifying, characterizing, targeting and conducting BDAs of HDBT, C4I, and WMD facilities. Prioritizes Government-wide R&D efforts related to identifying, characterizing, targeting and conducting BDAs of HDBT and WMD underground facilities. Leads, directs and oversees technical staff performing highly scientific engineering assessments in the Defense Intelligence Agency's Underground Facility Analysis Center. Directs, and oversees staffs assigned to the Targeting and Intelligence Community Support Program. Plans, directs, and oversees specialized contractor staff personnel assigned to the Hard Target Research and Analysis Center.
