Supervision of 5 operations employees (and any maintenance personnel when called in after hours) at a municipal wastewater facility (40 MGD design). Monitoring process on a rotating shift using WonderWare SCADA system. Duties include directing employees, monitoring plant, through SCADA and regular rounds. (Only person on site during minimum staffing).Coordinate response to rain events as the City of Lansing has combined sewers.Submit eDMR reports (until we get a new superintendent). Generate Monthly Operating Report. Plant processes include bar screens then split into parallel flows ("North Plant" and "South Plant") each include grit removal, preaeration, primary settling, phosphorus removal through ferric chloride addition, retention basins, secondary process (activated sludge process with fine bubble diffusers) and secondary clarifiers. The flows then combine and are pumped to tertiary sand filters. The effluent is disinfected using UV light.

Supervised 4 - 8 employee crews at a municipal wastewater treatment facility (54 MGD design), working afternoon or midnight shifts. Supervisory duties included employee orientation and training, evaluation, advising, ensuring employee safety and enforcing city policies.The facility included primary, secondary and tertiary treatment as well as solids treatment. During my tenure as a supervisor the plant underwent upgrades to solids treatment using the RDP process to create class A biosolids. Later upgrades to the secondary process saw the change to fine air diffusers and the installation of enhanced biological nutrient removal. Developed and maintained operations reports. Created an MS-Access database application to track operator training. Also created Access database to track predictive maintenance activities. Created budget models in MS-Excel to facilitate budget planning, generated monthly budget tracking reports using both Excel and Eden (Tyler Technology). Used MS Word and MS Visio to generate to develop SOPs as well as other communications.

Monitored Municipal waste water treatment facility (54 MGD design flow, average flow varied from 25-30 MGD) through use of a Fischer-Porter (and latter ABB) control system. Created graphics and trends for real-time control of treatment process. Generated reports using the "spreadsheet of the day", beginning with Lotus Symphony, migrating to Lotus 1-2-3 and finally using MS Excel. Created a database in Lotus Symphony to track work orders, greatly improving efficiency of work order system.Created a daily "Plant Update Report" to improve communication across all three shifts in a 24/7/365 operation.In monitoring capacity, dispatched personnel to deal with operational issues as identified through process computer. Coordinated field efforts with control room; developed procedures and routines to optimize plant automation. During this time, the plant upgraded disinfection to sodium hypochlorite and used sodium bisulfite for dechlorination.

Operated waste water system treating waste from a chrome plater, including hex chrome reduction, heavy metal precipitation, physical and chemical clarification, dewatering through use of plate press. Also treated chelated metals through a carbon tower. Operated chrome recovery equipment, including a "glass house" distillation unit and electrodialysis for recovery of "etch" (chromic solution used in pre-plating of plastics)
