Jan 5th, 2023.Today is my 1yr and 1 day anniversary of being the Warehouse Manager at Summit Valve and Controls. What a year and what a life turnaround! Despite so much respect and admiration of my previous employers (Force and Shawcor, who ironically are now the same company as Force recently purchased Shawcor), I have never been happier in my career. Oilfield inspection is a "young persons game". It was unpredictable, with a great opportunity to make money with endless overtime and opportunity to progress. A great string of mentors helped me progress from a 19yr old screwup, to someone to be trusted to be a manager. (Charlie, Gail, Calvin(RIP), Kevin, Greg, Craig, Tom, Stan, George, Dave, Daren and many more), But the life-work balance that Summit promotes (even demands) is exactly what I need at this stage in my life. I have literally been told by my boss to "go home, my family is waiting for me" at 5:30, on a day that I stayed a bit late to catch up on some paperwork. Don't get me wrong, from the time we start, we work, and work hard! There are no 'passengers' from 8-5! Summit hires from attitude first. We believe it is easier to give a hard working, ethical worker experience, than it is to teach an experienced worker to be ethical and work hard! We have to! It is fast paced, challenging and stressful, but it ends at 5pm. Literally and figuratively! I do not need to take work home with me, either on paper or mentally. I can shut my computer down, and clear any thoughts of work from my brain, until the next morning. So this is what sanity feels like!It was a perfect storm of events that led me here. I wasn't really looking to move on from a good job, but I sure am happy I opened the door when opportunity knocked!I miss my old coworkers and bosses, and am happy that the industry is bouncing back and their arrows are pointing up! I am where I belong though. Summit has big things around the corner, that I can not wait to not only be a part of, but the be a key participant in! Stay tuned!
