One of other Computational Engineers at MaxPoint recently quipped that we are "the data science agile continuous deployment devops fixit platform team!" which I must say, is a pretty accurate description of what we do. Our actual mission is to make the Data Scientists at MaxPoint more effective by being tool builders, automating their manual processes and helping them write idiomatic (and tested!) code. The software stack at MaxPoint is a base of Hadoop, Spark and Yarn to keep the JVM engineers happy and a frosting of Python, Scala and R so that our Data Scientists rarely have to leave the comforts of Jupyter. We manage data pipelines with in-house software that predates but is similar to AirFlow.

Lead developer for scikit-beam, an international collaboration to capture scientific algorithms for the X-Ray, Neutron and Electron sciences and to promote open science via open-source software. Developing live data reduction pipelines implemented as Jupyter notebooks. Translating data analysis and visualization requirements from scientists into tested, reusable algorithms, widgets and jupyter notebooks. Implementing continuous delivery of our Python software stack with conda and conda-build.

Investigated structure of disordered materials and the mechanisms of melt-crystallization. Experience with inert atmosphere solid-state synthetic and measurement techniques, glass blowing, 2-D synchrotron Temperature and Time-resolved X-Ray Diffraction (TtXRD), synchrotron analytic software (fit2d, pdfgetX2 & X3, etc.), use and maintenance of analytical powder diffractometer, Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Thermogravimetric Analysis. Designed, implemented and used CPU and hybrid CPU/GPU analytical and simulation software.

Experience with inert atmosphere solid-state synthetic and measurement techniques, DSC and powder diffraction. Analyzed 2-D synchrotron TtXRD to determine nucleation rates in melt-crystallization reactions.
