One of the best things that ever happened to me was getting injured on the job and becoming a below-the-knee amputee. This doesn’t make sense, right? I’m an expert at making sense of things and situations that are hard to explain or understand. Expert at finding the answer. So, let me share the answer to this riddle with you.At the age of 21, attending John Jay College of criminal justice, I was at a crossroads and needed guidance. I was lucky enough to meet John, who was an 18-year veteran of the NYC Corrections Department. Talking to him put me on the path to becoming a New York Police Officer at 22. Fast forward 5 years, I was severely injured and needed extensive recovery. But that didn’t stop me. On the contrary, it was a turning point in which I discovered my strength of will, cause, humility, and profound determination. As soon as I could I returned to work in one of the top 3 units in the NYPD, the Technical Assistant Response Unit, and became a detective. That’s where I learned how to install and operate cameras and extract video evidence from a variety of different camera systems. During my time as a detective, I achieved a 99.3% case resolution rate by obtaining search warrants, gathering, and verifying evidence, interviewing sources, and analyzing records. I led and coached highly motivated and productive teams while remaining focused on preventing potential future criminal activity. At this time in my life, I honed my expertise in evidence collection, forensic management, and data analysis to identify and detain suspects and solve crimes. At the same time, I realized I could do more through my public speaking skills and was able to increase community participation and awareness in policing, vigilance, safety, and security activities through community-based public safety programs. As a result, I was invited to speak at several colleges and was motivated to write published articles. I didn’t stop pushing forward when I retired in 2015 and started providing training, consultation, and public speaking services. I’m focused on not only security matters but also on helping disabled people and ushering them back into society, assisting veteran officers’ post-retirement transferring skills to the civilian world by leveraging their time, talent, and resources, and lastly, guiding people entering the law enforcement space on walking this journey with humility and willingness to work hard and self-motivate.Don't hesitate to connect with me, together we can continue creating and giving immense value to law enforcement professionals.
