Partnerships Consultant
I was part of a two person team who were sent to Mtwara, Tanzania on fixed term contracts to begin to implement an MoU signed with the Aga Khan Foundation. Our main goal was to legally establish the company and conduct research to begin myAgro's operations in the area in partnership with AKF with the goal of handing our work over to permanent staff upon completion of our contracts.I was primarily responsible for conducting field research in the villages in which we would be working. I conducted interviews and recorded observations which allowed me to make recommendations about the structure of our field staff, what key players we needed to involve, and what geographic areas we should focus on.After three months of research, I was able to make recommendations about staffing needs in the field, roles and responsibilities of those positions, scope of the first year of the project and responsible growth rates, and present a shortlist of 18 vendors and 82 villages to be shortened to 16 vendors and 48 villages for the first year of the project in 2018.In addition to this work, I also participated in discussions with our partner, the Aga Khan foundation surrounding short-term and long-term strategies of cooperation and researched the possibility of working with other local players like government research institutions, government agricultural officers, and other NGOs.
Partnerships Associate
I was a Partnerships Associate working on the implementation of the CRS-myAgro partnership which began in 2017. In the pilot year of the partnership, I was the sole Associate level worker on the project and reported directly to the Director of Partnerships. I was responsible for all areas of project management including overseeing field operations, analyzing data, discussing overall strategy, determining staff needs in terms of skills and materials, and planning and executing trainings to give them those skills. I was linked to field operations mainly through two field supervisors who managed the lower levels of field staff. I would also visit the villages in which we were working on a weekly basis to observe our activities there and be able to provide feedback. Our initial project goals were to enroll 880 farmers in 11 villages and deliver to 660 of them. The team was able to greatly surpass those objectives by enrolling 2047 farmers and delivering to 1782 of them. This success has led to both myAgro and CRS having the confidence to rapidly scale up the project for the 2018 season setting a target of over 12000 farmers reached.
Community Economic Development Agent
As a Community Economic Development volunteer, I worked primarily with small business owners or prospective entrepreneurs. I advised them in business creation and planning, market research, product differentiation, and accounting. With those who have existing businesses, this is primarily done one-on-one and I help them to build custom solutions, like Excel-based accounting sheets, to their problems. With those who wish to start a business, this is normally done in groups in a classroom using a predefined curriculum called the Entrepreneurship Training Program. In my second year of service, I created a product catalog for a local artisanal group by interviewing over 30 artists and artisans in either French or Wolof, gathering photos and descriptions of their work, and raising funds to print 200 copies of the catalog to present to the organization. In addition to my primary sector work, I also volunteered at the English Language Institute and helped to start a microgarden at the elementary school in my neighborhood.
Sat Tutor
I worked as an online SAT tutor. This involved teaching both small groups (up to 6) as well as individuals. Typically, group courses followed a curriculum that was defined by the company while one-on-one tutoring took a completely customized approach. In addition to preparing for and teaching class, my responsibilities included administering practice tests, reviewing the results of said practice tests with the student and family, and creating an action plan for one-on-one students to maximize score improvement.
Assistant To The Director Of Facilities And Operations
Manage contracts with external organizations holding events at Scott Stadium as well as schedule of events at the facility. Manage contracts, payments, and communication with internal organizations involved in Scott Stadium Cleanup program. Assist Director of Facilities and Operations with planning and monitoring of events as needed.
Asset Analyst
My primary work was to track and organize all of the computers in the warehouse. Before shipment, I ensured that all machines were properly imaged and had all necessary software installed. During shipment, I verified that each machine was going to its proper destination.
Program Support Technician
This was a summer job only. My job was to sort through all of the online claims for unclaimed property which required a match of two of either full name, address, or social security number. If the claim was invalid, I would e-mail the claimant informing them. If the claim was valid, I would e-mail the client and forward the claims to a full-time staff member for further processing. If I could not determine the validity of the claim with the information given, I would ask the claimant to provide additional information.
