I am an experienced researcher and writer in historical fields, specializing in educational history and the social history of British Columbia.I have researched and written (or co-written) five published books, several published and peer-reviewed papers, several popular articles, and a number of unpublished scholarly works. All these documents made use of primary and secondary sources.Additionally, I have assisted with legal expert witness statements involving alleged incidents in the past, and reviewed files for legal databases.As staff at Burnaby VIllage Museum, I conduct "behind the scenes" historical research for exhibits, displays, signs, and interpretive guidebooks.As well, I have worked in the role of:- editor of scholarly theses and reports- peer reviewer for academic journals- sessional instructor (University of British Columbia)- continuing studies instructor (Simon Fraser University)- heritage interpreter (Burnaby Village Museum)Outside of work, I am active with my strata corporation (having served on the council for several terms) and various progressive organizations. I volunteer with the Burnaby Lake Park Association to help restore habitat.In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors--hiking, nature study, photography--music, fine arts, and cooking. I also do a little blacksmithing!
