Provided Duke University political science professor Tim Büthe with legal knowledge for his survey of federal Department of Justice antitrust enforcement between 1960 and 2010. The purpose of the project was to advance the understanding of federal antitrust law enforcement in the context of economic globalization: has the Department of Justice been using antitrust law as a tool to protect domestic firms from global competition as some have hypothesized? Reviewed the initial coding of the federal antitrust case summaries by evaluating and determining what the correct code was for a given entry when there was disagreement among different coders-for example, whether the action was based on a violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Act or whether it was based on Section 2 of the Sherman Act.

Examples of issues worked on in depth in Summer 2014 include whether there was enough evidentiary support for the case to survive summary judgment against any of the defendants where a former San Francisco International Airport employee sued over a dozen parties for asbestos exposure; another was whether the court should accept a class action settlement between two California grocery store chains and their employees.
