As a boy I always had a big interest in aircraft and aviation. I did not realize my dream of becoming a pilot until 2002. After graduating from the MEAO in Holland in 1985 I worked at a company called Honeywell before I eventually moved back to South Africa in 1987. In Johannesburg I started working for Hoechst / Plastomark as a representative for engineering polymers. In 1999 I was promoted to export manager, but after over 15 years in an office I felt that it was time for a drastic change in my life and decided to pursue my dream of flying aircraft. I started my PPL training and in 2001 managed to get my commercial licence. During this post 911 time it was difficult to find a job, but after being retrenched in 2002 I took a trip to Maun in Botswana and was offered a job flying a Cessna C206 transporting guests to game lodges in the Okavango Delta. In 2003 I returned to South Africa, but still struggled to find work, so I decided to get my instructors rating. Lanseria Flight center offered me a job as a part-time instructor, the full time and later I was offered the position of CFI and office manager. I still wanted to fly bigger aircraft and finally joined Solenta to fly the Beechcraft 1900, then Airlink and the Jetstream 41. In 2010 after joining Comair I finally realized my ultimate dream of flying jet aircraft. Now after more than 15 years and over 10000 hours it's time for bigger and better things...I decided to leave South Africa at the beginning of October and look for new opportunities in the Asia /Pacific area, preferably a commuting contract based out of Brisbane, Australia. Unfortunately my plans have been delayed as I am currently recovering from surgery on a torn Achilles’ tendon, but I am expecting to be back to 100% in 6 weeks......
