Director Biodiversity And Wildlife Solutions
Dear Friends and colleagues--About one month ago, I gave an Author's Talk at Google HQ in Mountain View, CA on my new novel What Elephants Know and on innovations in wildlife conservation. The talk is now up on Youtube. I begin by describing how I ended up in Nepal in the Peace Corps (pure luck) and then being sent to Bardia (the Borderlands in my novel--even luckier) and the wildlife and culture that plays into the book. WARNING: EDUCATIONAL CONTENT. I cover conservation efforts on behalf of tigers, rhinos, and elephants and other endangered species and condense 40 years of tiger research into about five minutes. I also summarize the science behind Conservation Biology into one phrase, sparing all of you reading this without Ph.Ds having to suffer through grad school (phrase stolen from Jim Quinn, UCDavis). Finally, I introduce the concept of Nature Needs Half, a new initiative that I and many other like-minded biologists hope will become the overarching conservation paradigm for this century. I hope you find this information interesting.Namaste.Eric Dinerstein: "What Elephants Know" | Talks at Googlehttps://gutsv3.corp.google.com/#ticket/21065749 Dr. Eric Dinerstein is the Director of the Biodiversity and Wildlife Solutions Program at RESOLVE.
