About Eric Donsky

Proven serial entrepreneur that is passionate about disruption and making positive contributions. Founder of one of the first industrial synthetic biology companies focused on bio-based chemical and materials manufacturing. Bioamber went public with a $1.4B valuation on the NYSE. I enjoy building companies from the ground up and working with great teams. Built one of the earliest nanofluidic, lab-on-a-chip (Dx) companies into a $500M NASDAQ listed company. My latest venture, Atomic13, is focused on the upcycling of aluminum scrap into high value aluminum extruded parts for the building and construction industry. Our highly novel solid-phase process technology converts 100% post consumer aluminum scrap into extruded parts that meet or exceed the ASTM standards on structural specifications for various aluminum alloys, including 6061 and 6063.

    Chairman & Ceo
    Atomic13 Sep 2023 - Present
    San Diego, California, United States
Upcycling Aluminum Scrap into High-Value Extrusions for the Building & Construction Industry. Commercializing a novel solid-phase process technology that converts 100% post consumer scrap into extruded aluminum parts with 90% lower embodied carbon at a cost competitive with conventional extrusion technologies. The building and construction industry is under increasing regulatory pressure to decarbonize the built environment and Atomic13 is focused on delivering on the promise of much needed transparency on the carbon footprint of aluminum extrusions.
  • Bodi Energy
    Chairman & Ceo
    Bodi Energy Jul 2014 - Jul 2023
    San Diego, California, United States
Bodi Energy has developed 3 core process technologies that integrate to enable the engineering and mass manufacturing of highly tunable nanostructured composite battery materials that have demonstrated in OEM battery testing to deliver far better safety and performance than commercial and development stage micron scale battery materials. Our first material in sequence is a polymeric/ceramic nanostructured composite separator that is 4x more conductive than coated polyolefins, uptakes 10x more electrolyte and is far better at mitigating the risk of thermal propagation in nail penetration testing. We have also developed a non-flammable, highly conductive electrolyte that cures within the tunable pores of our separator as a scaffold and exhibits 3C, 3C rate capability. Our separator/electrolyte system suppresses dendritic growth and works well at low temperature.
  • The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center For Biosustainability
    Strategic Advisor To The Ceo
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center For Biosustainability Aug 2019 - Oct 2020
    Copenhagen Area, Capital Region, Denmark

TearLab is a nanofluidic, lab-on-a-chip platform capable of precisely measuring biomarkers in 50 nanoliters of tears in a physician's office. Built a chip manufacturing capability from the ground up to be ISO 13485 complaint. TearLab's first product is FDA approved, CLIA Waived, CE marked and sells in 23 countries. This product is reimbursed in several countries including the US. TearLab is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker TEAR. Led the company to a $500M market cap
  • Bioamber Inc.
    Founder & Ceo
    Bioamber Inc. Jan 1994 - Mar 2000
    Canada & Us
BioAmber, previously Applied CarboChemicals, was one of the earliest innovators in synthetic biology and a leading bio-based manufacturer of chemicals and plastics. The Company has developed a recombinant fermentation process to economically produce succinic acid at scale. Succinic and its salts function as end products in a range of applications. Succinic acid also serves as a C4 chemical intermediate for the production of derivative chemicals and plastics. BioAmber developed polybutylene succinate into a commercial product. The company built a $140M manufacturing facility demonstrating its ability to scale its recombinant fermentation, low cost purification and downstream synthetic catalysis. BioAmber is venture-backed by Samsung, Mitsui Ventures, and Sofinnova. It has signed strategic deals with Mitsui, Mitsubishi, DuPont and Cargill. The Company's core technologies were originally developed by 4 national laboratories funded by a $28M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE). Bioamber realized a $1B+ market cap on the NYSE.
