About Eric Eustache

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND LEAST KNOWN THINGS TO KNOW AND TO SPREAD:‘Small-scale farming produces 70-75% of the food consumed worldwide on 1/4 of the cultivated land, whereas industrial farming produces 25-30% on 3/4 of the cultivated land. What's more, of this 25-30% of industrial production, 44% goes to animal feed, 23% is lost (in transport, storage or ending up in consumers' rubbish bins), 9% is used for agrofuels and only 24% goes directly onto people's plates, i.e. 6-7% of the food produced worldwide. So there's no need for GMOs or connected farming to increase the quantity of food on a global scale: all we need to do is change land use in favour of small family farms and urgently halt the development of biofuels, bioplastics and other biosourced products. If we allocated even 50% of cultivated land to small-scale farming, instead of the current 25%, we would almost double the amount of food produced worldwide’. (Hélène Tordjman, La croissance verte contre la nature : critique de l'écologie marchande, 2021).WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Because industrial agriculture produces almost 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions and is by far the main source of deforestation in the world. Because the chemicals it releases on a massive scale into the environment are destroying biodiversity and generating an explosion of diseases in humans and our children. And because, in a world undergoing ultra-rapid global warming, it is the form of agriculture least capable of adapting, other than by causing even more damage.CHEMICAL AGRICULTURE IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, WHILE FAMILY FARMING IS THE SOLUTION, EVEN IF THE AGROCHEMICAL LOBBIES HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONVINCE US OTHERWISE FOR DECADES. WE MUST DEFEND THE GENERAL INTEREST AGAINST PRIVATE INTERESTS.#climatecrisis #biodiversity #livingsoils #regenerativeagriculture #reforestation #degrowth #oceans #lifesciences
