Eric Evans is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Disability Rights Nebraska . In this capacity, Dr. Evans is responsible for board relations, strategic planning, capacity building, operational planning and the general management of the organization. He served previously as the Chief Operating Officer at Disability Rights Nebraska where he has been employed since 1987.During the mid to late 1970s, Dr. Evans worked as a Psychiatric Technician, Social Services Worker and Mental Retardation Program Specialist at the Lincoln Region Center. Dr. Evans was an Instructor in the Human Services Program at Southeast Community College from 1978 to 1981, where he was responsible for developing an Associate of Arts degree program in Developmental Disabilities Services.From 1980 to 1987 he served as the Planning Director and, later, as the Council Director for the Nebraska Governor’s Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities. Since 2002 he has served as a Lecturer in the Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education for the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Dr. Evans received an A.B. (1972) in anthropology from Miami University (Ohio) and an M.A. (1974) from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln in anthropology. In the mid to late1980’s Dr. Evans was a graduate student in philosophy with a special interest in bioethics. As a result of his work in philosophy he developed a strong interest in the writings of John Dewey. In 2011 he received a Ph.D. in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education from the University of Nebraska. He has published articles on the quality of life of people with developmental disabilities, the development of the Individual Justice Plan model for people with developmental disabilities who become involved with the criminal justice system, and on the history of the developmental disabilities service system in Nebraska.
