I wrote sports, culture, and politics pieces for my personal websites and outlets all over the internet. I was published on sites and in magazines such as GQ, ESPN, Deadspin, The AV Club and The Awl. I also held daily basketball-writing gigs at The Sporting News and AOL FanHouse and created t-shirt taglines for Nike Basketball on several occasions.

I served as a staff writer for Ball Don't Lie, a popular NBA blog that helped define the dominant form of basketball writing for the web. I wrote 3-4 posts daily touching on breaking news, game recaps, highlights, columns, straight opinion-writing, and attempts to push the envelope of what sportswriting can be. I also contributed to Yahoo's tentpole coverage of three Olympics and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. My work was almost always written on very tight deadlines, typically publishing immediately after completion.My duties included seeking out article topics, writing my own headlines, managing several different content management systems, promoting my work on social media platforms. I coordinated my work with several co–writers and a large team of editors across North America, as well.

I served as a driving force behind a Kickstarter-funded sports website that helped legitimize crowdfunding for journalism. We raised more than $50,000 for our version of independent, offbeat sportswriting based on limited promotion and our own reputations.I helped develop the site's brand in terms of design, content, and tone. I worked within our editorial team to accept and reject pitches, edited writers to an extent rarely seen in online media, and wrote semi-regular columns and blog posts.

I spent several years as a writer for FreeDarko, one of the internet's first and most notable basketball blogs. In October 2010, we published an eccentric and personality-driven pro basketball history book for Bloomsbury USA. My role included developing the book's concepts and structures, writing infographics and sidebar content, and editing many of the work's core essays. I also promoted the book in print (including The New York Times), on radio, and at several bookstore appearances.

Fanbase sought to create a fan-driven sports almanac in the spirit of IMDb.com. My role involved seeking out and recruiting our first members, devising user incentives and the overall structure for member activity on the site, writing a wide range of site materials (community guidelines, FAQs, announcement posts, error messages, etc.), and regularly discussing sports with members to facilitate site activity. We were ultimately not successful in our goals, but I received a crash course in many aspects of online branding and site management while working with a terrific core team that went on to found and build Nextdoor.

I spent four seasons writing detailed game previews, game recaps, and feature articles for the donor and student groups of Stanford Men's Basketball. I worked in close contact with the program's coaches and support staff and interviewed everyone from notable alumni to future NBA first-round picks. The teams I worked for played in the NCAA Tournament three times, made one Sweet Sixteen, and participated in one NIT.

I edited public policy papers for the journal of the nation's first student-run think tank (now known as Roosevelt Institute). The journal was distributed to a select audience including members of the U.S. Congress and some of the nation's leading academics and policy minds.
