Built from the ground up the team responsible for the ingest and improvement of OpenStreetMap data used for navigation, search, and display. Over time I expanded the team to include ownership of additional data sources as well as the platforms for data validation and ingest pipeline management. Created an inclusive and balanced culture allowing individuals to shine. - Established the criteria and process for hiring a multi-site team of full-time and contract engineers and data analysts.- Built an inclusive team culture with initiatives focused on engineering excellence, diversity, transparency, and growth and retention.- Helped define and execute the strategy for 3rd party maps data usage and open source project engagement. This included strategy definition, creation of a multi-year roadmap, resource planning, and budgeting as well as ensuring alignment with external groups such as legal, operations, engineering, and public relations.- Provided technical leadership and guidance on numerous projects touching upon such subjects as data ingest pipelines, map data improvement, map data modeling, data validation, and open source project support.- Hired as an experienced remote manager I mentored peers through the pandemic by sharing methods of building trust and team culture in a fully remote work environment.

Senior Engineering Manager for the Traffic Services and Map Improvement teams.- Led the development effort for projects including the design and implementation of a new Java based traffic notification server, the generation of an Azure based Hadoop cluster for the offline processing of GPS probe / "big data" data for map data improvements, and the generation of traffic segments to define the road network in a way meaningful for routing applications using OpenStreet Map (OSM) data.- Helped to identify and design algorithms for probe and topology based OSM data correction. These updates helped make OSM usable for turn-by-turn directions in a commercial project.- Technical due diligence lead for the acquisition of the first-to-market OSM navigation company, Skobbler (Germany/Romania).- Designed and coordinated work on on-board and off-board traffic systems supporting OpenLR and TMC over HTTP, TPEG, and RDS-TMC.- Worked closely with build and release, QA, IT, and development teams to define and implement processes ensuring the reproducibility and reliability of releases.- Provided architectural guidance as well as coordination to the routing, map display, traffic, and data mining teams distributed across four sites and three countries (US, Romania, and China).- Interim Director of Engineering with ~50+ employees across 3 sites.

Directed the Traffic Services team as they developed a new traffic notification server used to provide mobile navigation clients with details concerning traffic conditions along their route. Additionally responsible for the upgrade and maintenance of the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator web companion website.

Led the team responsible for the conception, planning, and coding of a Java web server capable of aggregating and publishing traffic flow and incident information. Networks in Motion was purchased by TeleCommunications Systems in 2010.

Designed, developed, and maintained custom multi-threaded Java traffic data servers which provide customers with timely and accurate traffic information. TrafficGauge was purchased by Networks in Motion in 2009.

Responsible for the development and maintenance of Verizon Wireless' internal software used for wireless network analysis, DataPro DM. Full stack development from device drivers to UI.

Worked with a team in charge of developing and testing software for Motorola's V60 series of wireless phones.
