About Eric Grewal, Md, Mmsc

I am a physician-scientist with expertise in the design, development, and clinical evaluation of innovative immune-based therapies for cancer and immunologic disorders.Over the past decade, I have established myself as a tumor immunologist on the leading edge, conducting impactful research on novel cancer immunotherapies in both academia and industry. My work spans the full spectrum of cancer immunology, including the development of tumor vaccines (peptide, dendritic cell-, microbe-, and neoantigen-based), CAR T cells, innate immune agonists, TCR-based therapies, checkpoint inhibitors, and bispecific T cell engagers. My expertise extends to early clinical development, where I have played key roles in clinical trials of novel immunotherapies for solid tumors. Noteworthy examples include leading a phase I study of a therapeutic tumor vaccine in high-risk melanoma, co-leading biomarker analyses for a prominent phase II combination immunotherapy trial, and conducting histologic analysis for one of the first successful CAR T cell trials for glioblastoma multiforme. In the scientific realm, my research has focused on advancing multiple classes of immunotherapies through mouse models, cell lines, and primary human cells. I have also explored fundamental mechanisms of vaccine response using cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing, flow cytometry, and in-vitro assays. Through these experiences, I have honed particular expertise in vaccine design, DC-CD8 T cell interactions, antigen-specific immune responses, tolerance mechanisms, and solid tumor immunotherapy. As a board-eligible clinical pathologist, my specialty is in bridging basic science discoveries with patient care. I lead translational projects employing state-of-the art bioinformatics, multiplexed spatial imaging, AI/machine learning, and mass cytometry to investigate tumor biology. I also have formal training in cellular therapy, encompassing apheresis, cellular product processing, and lab directorship.Looking ahead, I am committed to becoming an industry leader in translational research and driving the approval of next-generation immunotherapies. My ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of life-saving treatments for terminally ill patients who are eagerly awaiting new cures.
