Consulting projects included:Development of dynamic Hadoop ETL engine for a Fortune 100 media corporation. This module is written in bash and HiveQL, runs in a Hadoop/Linux environment, dynamically parallelizes itself based upon table metadata and passed in parameters, and is used to populate a Marketing Data Warehouse.Development of metadata-driven ETL engine for a Fortune 100 media corporation. This engine is written in bash and pl/sql, runs in an Exadata and Linux environment, dynamically optimizes itself at run time and loads a Marketing Data Warehouse in support of marketing effectiveness BI reporting using Cognos and Tableau.Development of billing system conversion toolkit for a Fortune 100 media corporation. The toolkit automates multi-column key conversions of geographic entities, dynamically optimizes itself based upon changes in table structure, partitioning, indexing and data content, is written in bash and pl/sql, and runs in an Exadata and Linux environment.Development of Pentaho .ktr file modifier/loader for a Fortune 100 media corporation, used to load a Marketing Data Warehouse in support of closed-loop marketing effectiveness reporting and insight generation using Tableau.Participation on a Fortune 50 HealthCare corporation's Customer Relationship Management ROI Engine project involving data integration, source-to-target mapping, data profiling and validation, SQL and view creations in SQL Server and Teradata environments.Participation with BI Strategy consulting with a Fortune 50 HealthCare corporation's Group Purchase Organization division.Development of National Customer Retention dashboards for a Fortune 100 media corporation. Consulted at Sprint.Eric supported the topology databases for the Sprint Broadband Network Management Division project releases for July and September. Some of Eric’s accomplishments on this project involved taking 2 data evolution extract queries running for 2 ½ hours and 1 ½ hours respectively, and tuning them both to run in 1 second each.As the Physical Oracle DBA Team Lead, Eric supervised 4 other DBA’s, working in a data warehousing environment utilizing Oracle Parallel Server (8.0.6, 8.1.6) on IBM SP2/AIX Silver Node frames with 8 Terabytes of data, 500,000 database objects in 12 OPS databases, spread across 53 OPS instances. He and his team supported the Enterprise Business Information organization (finance), including over 80 developers, technical architects, data administrators, and business analysts. He additionally supported various non-OPS Solaris and NT databases, and provided 24x7 oncall support for all databases. Eric was the project DBA (logical and physical) on the LTD Carrier Market Resegmentation, LTD Daily Sales Stabilization, LTD Feature Usage, and LTD NIBS Stabilization projects.Eric conducted technical interviews for new Oracle DBA team members for Sprint (as the team lead), as well as for MCG DBA candidates.Eric was awarded the Sprint Values Excellence award for his work on the LTD ABM/LOB project.

At Quintiles Transnational, which acquired the US business of Hoechst Marion Roussel through merger, Eric continued as a Senior Database Administrator. He designed, developed, and implemented the Oracle Hot Backup/Recovery strategy for all Unix databases in Quintiles North America, using HP OmniBack. For FDA Audit purposes, he documented and validated recovery from all types of media failures. His projects include recovery from Control File Media Failures, using a Mirrored Control File and a Create Control File Script. He also implemented his recovery strategy for Unarchived Redo Log Media Failures, System and Non-System Tablespace Media Failures, and Non-System Tablespace Datafile Media Failures with and without Rollback Segments, and a Database Crash during a Hot Backup. Eric also designed, developed, and implemented the Oracle Hot Backup/Recovery strategy for all Unix and NT databases in Quintiles North America, using Veritas NetBackup. Again, for FDA Audit purposes, he documented and validated recovery from all types of media failures.

At Hoechst Marion Roussel, Eric was a Senior Advisor and Global Application Responsible for the Clintrial/Clintrace Interface, supporting sites in the U.S., Germany, France, England, and Japan. He was also responsible for global interfaces between all Global Clinical Data Management, Clinical Project Management, Clinical Study Management, and Global Product Medical Surveillance systems within the Kansas City Application.He was a Systems Development Team member for Global Drug Surveillance. His accomplishments include Oracle WebServer development in PL/SQL, using dynamic SQL, and JavaScript, supporting both Internet Explorer and Netscape. He was also Project Leader for the TIS 3.0 rollout at the Kansas City HMR site and a member of the Global Application Delivery System (ADS) team for all global clinical systems at HMR.

As an Oracle Corporation senior consultant (in the DBA/Technical line-of-business) at Hoechst Marion Roussel, Eric acquired the responsibility that he eventually assumed as Global Application Responsible. He advised Hoechst Marion Roussel DBA's on global backup and recovery issues and strategies, including specific dependencies due to the Domain Solutions’ Clintrace Distribution Module process.He implemented the Global Product Medical Surveillance system (WISP) involving a global implementation of Windows/UNIX client server applications (Domain Solutions’ Clintrace and Clintrial) utilizing Oracle7 (version 7.1, running in HPUX)Eric installed all Oracle software on WISP project client (Windows, Windows95 and NT) and UNIX server machines, and created and tuned Oracle instances associated with the Kansas City implementations. He utilized Oracle Designer/2000 for the reverse-engineering of data models.

At Yellow Technology Services, Eric provided DBA and Data Analysis support for the Sysnet Linehaul system development project for Central Dispatch Operations of Yellow Freight Systems, utilizing Oracle 7 (Version 7.1). The system utilized a 3-tiered architecture with client applications, application servers, and database servers, including development with PowerBuilder, C and Pro*C, Tuxedo services, and SQL*Net for TCP/IP. He modeled logical and physical databases using ERwin ERX for PowerBuilder. The project followed the Method/1 systems development methodology (Anderson Consulting).Eric provided DBA support for the Project Definition Phases of two Data Warehousing projects; one supporting Business Intelligence, and the other supporting Profit Management. He provided on-call production support for DB2 (MVS) databases with over 100 gigabytes. He developed enterprise-wide backup and recovery strategy for all Oracle instances, and developed a dynamic Hot Backup script which generated a complete Hot Backup script for Oracle databases on RS6000’s (AIX), Pyramids (DC/OSX) and SUN Spacrc2000’s (Solaris). He wrote the script to enable backing up with the UNIX TAR command as well as IBM’s ADSM (Unix/MVS). Eric implemented Oracle7 instances (4 gigabytes) for an Imaging project on IBM RS60000’s running AIX. He developed client applications in PowerBuilder, C, and Pro*C. He also created DBA/Sysadm testing/migration/training instances (Version 7.0 and 7.1) on RS6000 (AIX), SUN Sparc2000 (Solaris) and Pyramid (DC/OSX) platforms.

At USA Services, Eric managed an Electronic Services Systems Support staff of eight and an annual budget of $400,000. He was the Product/Project Manager of the WhizKid loan origination/EDI software package, with 700 client companies internationally. WhizKid was DOS-based and written in C, and was Novell network-compatible. Eric directed the design, testing, implementation, production, and distribution of releases 4.20 and 4.30.

At Nationale Nenderlanden (now ING), Eric developed enterprise architecture and infrastructure for CONNECT property and casualty systems in MVS/DB2 environment, utilizing CA’s Telon CASE tool. Applications ran in CICS/MVS/VTAM, were written in COBOL II and SQL, and supported all North American property and casualty companies with an estimated 3000 users.

At Miami University, Eric co-designed (as a beta site) and implemented an SIS Accounts Receivable system (American Management Systems), written in COBOL, and utilizing VSAM databases and CICS/MVS. He developed all major interfaces to other university systems including: payroll, personnel, admissions, university relations, student financial aid, housing, and registration. He provided DBA support for all VSAM databases, including tuning and monitoring, and developed an on-line refunding subsystem, using COBOL and VSAM in CICS/MVS environment.Eric designed, developed, documented, implemented, provided training for, and maintained an on-line Student Financial Aid system. The system was developed in Natural/Adabas, and ran in CICS/MVS. It supported a user base of approximately 40. Eric also supported every major system at the university, including regional and international campuses.
