I'm currently supporting OSD TRMC in the area of UxS testing current and future. It has been apparent to me for several years a new paradigm of OT&E, and DT&E will be required to affordably and timely transition UxS through acquisition processes and related requirements. My goal is to bring what I can to help solve this critical and very hard emerging problem. Autonomous warfighting robots, and systems of heterogenious robots that learn, self network and organize are in the future. For these technologies to transition, we will need similarly sophisticated science and technologies to measure their effectiveness, performance, and manage risks with formal quantitative means. The AMN team I assembled as a Gov PI/PM continues to lead the Navy and the world in perception and autonomy research on unmanned surface vehicles (USV). As that time I led a multidisciplinary team of researchers from academia, government and private industry developing a system that allows robotic surface craft to perform unscripted missions and collaborate with other USVs. We also worked on advanced perception an machine classification of entities in the area of regard. I still Chair ASTM F41.05 subcommittee for maritime UV COLREGS and operations, I am secretary for SAE ASD-4 subcommittee for autonomy metrics and work with NIST. I was VP of Hampton Roads chapter of AUVSI and remain active with student robotics competitions. Active in Robot Venture. For sanity and fun I still moonlight as a bass & guitar player in bands, with regular gigs in local bars, events etc. for far too many years now.My goals are to build and change our community environment towards more STEM (science technology engineering mathemetics) centricity at our lower education levels. The USA is seriously defocused in my view and we are losing our edge and going to lose our country. Our top US engineering grad schools are populated with over %50 foreign nationals which we deport upon graduation. go figure...Specialties: Innovation, machine: intelligent autonomy, sensing, perception systems, R&D program leadership and management, team and program building, I'm not good at following rhetorical processes.
