Analyzed, designed, and developed a complex application for controlling a low temperature, high-throughput automated sample storage systems for use in compound management and bio-repository applications. Worked closely with product management and hardware/firmware engineers to create a system that could store a million or more sample tubes with automated high-volume intake and the ability to cherry-pick small subsets on demand. The system had multiple hardware modules for ‘picking’ various types of sample containers (e.g., tubes, vials, racks, plates) and had an integration module for interfacing with other lab automation and LIMS software. Responsible for strategic planning, cost estimating, and day-to-day management of software engineering team of up to 10 people. Implemented and maintained Dev Ops tools including Jira, Confluence, and Jenkins. Additionally, worked closely with global customers on custom projects as well as coordination of new installations and site acceptance tests.

Analyzed, designed, and developed the software for a protein crystallography system with the capability to store and incubate hundreds of microplates and image each well on a custom schedule. Researchers used the web browser interface to quickly find the well/experiment that yielded crystals that could be harvested for their research purposes. During this continually renewing contract, I took on process and people management responsibilities, frequently interfacing with senior leadership and customers.
