Eric provided technical and process consultancy during the redevelopment and re-launch the allhomes.com.au web platform. allhomes.com.au is a major Internet system consisting of several interlinked public and privileged portals, totalling over 360 dynamic screens and servicing over 1.6 million page impressions per day with mandated system uptime in excess of 99.99%. Key technical responsibilities of this role included re-engineering of screens, business logic, and security for the enterprise web portal.

At Business Objects Eric worked as a software developer and SCRUM coach on the OLAP team producing three majour releases of the Voyager data warehouse visualisation product. While the company as a whole operated on an annual release schedule, the OLAP team delivered monthly using the SCRUM development methodology. Eric was a strong contributor to the team developing features, fixing customer escalation issues, improving testing practices, mentoring junior team members, and driving agile process improvements.

Eric worked as a contract software engineer for IP Australia building an electronic business solution for patent filing. Using J2EE technologies including JMS, Web Services, Struts/Tiles, and Weblogic, Eric helped to deliver a solution that is still running in live production to date. Key feature areas that Eric took on were the electronic payment subsystem, patent filing interface, and the core messaging bus. Incorporating agile methodologies and maintaining a customer focus by working closely with business analysts and industry contacts were keys to the success of the project.

During this contract position Eric worked as a Software Engineer developing a native XML database management system, in Java, called XStreamDB. As a member of a small development team Eric was responsible for designing and implementing Java code in areas of transaction management, security, recovery, and multi-user support. Eric’s quality assurance and development environment expertise also played a major role in this project as he enhanced the company’s test environment through test automation, a continuous integration build environment and development of a custom multi-threaded test framework to simulate user load.

Eric took on a new role in his career with XML Global as a Software Engineer for the ebXML Messaging middleware product. ebXML is an open XML-based infrastructure specification designed to support business-to-business commerce over the Internet. The core technologies involved with ebXML include XML, SOAP 1.1, PKI and various Internet transport standards. Under mentorship from the project leader, Eric contributed to the object oriented analysis and design including application of design patterns and UML modelling. Further, Eric was responsible for the design and implementation of the SOAP and ebXML message API, development of the XML Digital Signature Subsystem, and implementation of a automated continuous integration server.

During this period Eric was involved in the successful development and delivery of several Internet and middleware applications in a variety of positions at this Vancouver IT firm. Eric gained technical experience in the delivery of technologies including a highly available internet desktop platform and internet backbone MTAs.
