Geoscience Consultant
∙ Provide integrated petroleum geoscience expertise and support to various investors, PE firms and independent operators.∙ Provided basin-to-prospect scale analysis of reservoirs and petroleum systems across the southern and western Delaware Basin (Permian Basin) for an investment firm. Correlated and mapped reservoirs, source rocks and seals, clarified facies relationships, identified structural styles and mechanisms, mapped normal, thrust and strike-slip faults and performed quantitative log analysis in the Devonian through Permian interval using hundreds of wireline logs integrated with regional geologic and geophysical data.∙ Performed detailed prospect, field, project and personnel evaluations on behalf of investors considering initiating or increasing funding with various companies and new start-ups in the Anadarko, Permian and Appalachian Basin.∙ Generated prospects, prospect leads and new play concepts for an independent operator in the Jurassic of southern Alabama and northern Florida. Loaded, balanced, tied and interpreted twelve 3D seismic surveys and over fifty 2D seismic lines, integrated with log, core, gravity and magnetic data across an area of over 1,400 square miles. Identified and described a new structural and trap style for the area related to volcanic intrusives; generated several new prospects based on the concept.
Director/Founder
∙ Identified and evaluated a major new resource exploration play and prospect in the Delaware Basin (Permian Basin).∙ Performed log analysis, stratigraphic correlation, structural interpretation, synthesis and mapping of the prospect.∙ Identified and negotiated with mineral owners; brokered mineral sales and acquired lease options.∙ Prepared exhibits and presentations, business communications and marketing materials to promote prospect; presented prospect to potential investors and E&P operators.∙ Interpreted log, core and seismic data to generate and map conventional drilling prospects in both proven reservoirs and new plays along the Ozona Arch (Permian Basin).
Director Exploration - American Energy Partners; Director Geoscience - American Energy Appalachia
∙ Contributed as lead geoscientist for identification, ranking and execution of initial E&P projects to build a new, multi-billion-dollar company.∙ Recruited, organized and led the foundational geoscience staff for exploration and development; established organizational structure, goals, methodologies, software implementation, data requirements, training and technical best practices.∙ Recruited and organized a petrophysical staff to implement industry-leading log analysis and reservoir evaluation.∙ Founded, staffed and led the Geoscience department for American Energy Utica (now Ascent Resources), to support exploration and rapid reserves growth, with up to 10 rigs running in the Utica Shale and Marcellus Shale plays.∙ Trained staff in the use of innovative analysis, interpretation and mapping techniques for resource play evaluation.∙ Led the geoscience effort to extend the Utica Shale play south of the original core area, with improved well results.∙ Interpreted geologic and geophysical data to identify, describe and map the play’s key parameters within the regional and local context of the Appalachian Foreland Basin; identified and described relationships with conventional plays in the area.
Advisor Geoscientist
∙ Formed and led a multi-discipline team to undertake a new Wolfcamp horizontal drilling program.∙ Designed an innovative Wolfcamp vertical pilot and horizontal drilling program to efficiently evaluate a large acreage position; successfully presented it for senior management approval and subsequent funding approval from the Loews Corporation.∙ Advised management and geoscience staff regarding play evaluation techniques, including both conventional and unconventional play types.∙ Designed/implemented a GIS project to conduct a detailed evaluation and revision of Sonora Field 3P reserves.
Senior Geologist - New Ventures
∙ Created a new geologic model and play definition to identify the original focus area for CHK’s Haynesville Shale play.∙ Evaluated other basins and formations for resource and conventional play potential, including the Williston Basin Bakken and Three Forks, Silurian-Devonian shales and carbonates of Michigan, Devonian shales and the Utica Shale in the Appalachian Basin, the New Albany Shale in the Illinois Basin and the Gulf Coast Smackover Formation.∙ Interpreted seismic data, well logs, etc. to define regional plays, generate prospects, enhance field developments and evaluate potential acquisitions in several areas including the N. Louisiana-E. Texas Salt Basin, Williston Basin and eastern Ohio.∙ Completed a detailed structural and reservoir model for the Hosston Sands at Simsboro Field in north Louisiana; initiated CHK’s development of the field with several successful field extensions and development of undrained fault blocks.∙ Evaluated CHK’s entire Louisiana acreage for the Bossier sand play, interpreting and integrating a massive inventory of logs, core, production, 2D seismic and 3D seismic data. Identified, mapped and drilled a Bossier Sand new field discovery on a faulted anticline related to underlying salt deformation.∙ Wrote petrophysical equations for the Geographix Prizm software to enhance and automate multi-well wireline log evaluations; designed automated lithology definition and correction routines for Prizm.∙ Trained and mentored other CHK geologists in geologic and geophysical interpretation, log analysis and mapping, including use of the Geographix software; wrote custom Prizm petrophysical routines for other geologists and engineers.∙ Prepared and gave presentations to multi-discipline teams, senior management and outside partners; created technical graphics for CHK investor presentations, partner discussions and annual reports.
Senior Geologist - International New Ventures
∙ Interpreted seismic data, wireline logs, gravity, magnetics, etc. to generate exploration plays and evaluate potential acquisitions in areas including Yemen, West Africa, the Black Sea, the western Mediterranean and the U.S. Gulf Coast Jurassic trend.∙ Used seismic, subsurface and surface geologic data to describe a new play concept and define prospects in the Sabatayn Salt Basin, leading to the discovery of An Nagyah Field, a major oil field and new, sub-salt play opener in Yemen.∙ Initiated a new exploration program to target the offshore extension of the Balkanide fold belt and foreland of Bulgaria.∙ Conducted geologic field work, interpreted seismic and well data and managed in-house and consultant technical teams as lead geoscientist for the Bulgaria exploration program; designed, bid and executed a 1,700 km. marine 2D seismic survey.∙ Liaised and negotiated with the Bulgarian MOEW; managed technical work by Sofia University faculty and students.∙ Wrote the annual work programs and annual technical reports for submission to the Bulgarian government.∙ Negotiated with Turkish national oil company TPAO to acquire seismic data extending into Turkish waters and share data.∙ Presented results of Black Sea technical investigations at professional conferences (AAPG Dallas, 2004; AAPG Prague, 2004).∙ Designed a multimedia data room and provided presentations to potential partners (e.g., Shell, Exxon, Total, Agip, Anadarko).∙ Provided peer review, technical assistance and prospect risk analysis and ranking support to staff and management.
Geologist - New Ventures
∙ Generated and evaluated exploration plays and prospects in areas including West Africa, East Africa, the Black Sea and eastern Mediterranean. Defined first play concepts for a new exploration program in the deep-water Majunga salt basin, Madagascar, resulting in licensing of a concession subsequently farmed out to Exxon-Mobil.∙ Interpreted log, core, seismic, gravity and magnetic data in a wide variety of structural/tectonic settings to develop basin-to-prospect scale models for structure, depositional environment, stratigraphy, source rock and reservoir trends.∙ Developed seismic stratigraphic interpretations and related chronostratigraphy and burial histories to support basin modeling.∙ Introduced use of GIS technology to the Exploration and New Ventures departments; provided personnel with GIS training.
