EdReports.org is an independent nonprofit designed to improve K-12 education. EdReports.org increases the capacity of teachers, administrators, and leaders to seek, identify, and demand the highest quality instructional materials. Drawing upon expert educators, our reviews of instructional materials and support of smart adoption processes equip teachers with excellent materials nationwide. Oversee all aspects of the organization from its founding to now producing over 1100 K-12 math, ELA and science reports that have been documented to influence materials selection in over 1200 districts serving almost 18M students.

Oversee NTC’s external affairs function including impact and research, policy and Teaching and Learning Conditions (TELL) Survey development, design and implementation. Develop, conduct, and analyze Teaching and Learning Conditions Surveys in 15 states and 27 districts and assist policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders in using results to reform policy and practice, building the project into a sustainable $2M line of work. Lead policy development work including briefings, report writing, legislative tracking and publications and working directly with policymakers on improving teacher and principal preparation, support, induction and evaluation. Oversee two federally funded external evaluations of NTC programs. Serve as one of five chief officers, helping the non-profit spin off from the university and double in size and budget during tenure.

Direct financial and personnel issues and policy work at the Center for Teaching Quality. Conduct research on teaching quality issues—teacher working conditions, pay for performance, data systems, leadership, recruitment, and No Child Left Behind—provide technical assistance to educators, stakeholders and policymakers, convene conversations, and write reports and briefs. Support the creation of CTQ’s Teacher Leaders Network. Develop the Teacher Working Conditions Initiative in North Carolina and scaled the initiative to other states as the official liaison of Governor Mike Easley.

Start up and direct a group of 100 policymakers, stakeholders and practitioners to ensure a quality teacher in every Colorado classroom, every day. Work with tri-chairs and Executive Committee and direct all aspects of the organization from fundraising and research to drafting legislation. Write publications and assist legislators, state board members and other policymakers through testimony, policy analysis, and presentations to enact the Alliance’s policy recommendations.

Conduct research and track state policies on charter schools, school choice, home schooling, vouchers, governance, leadership, and teaching quality policy issues. Write publications, ranging from 2 page briefs to 150 page state policy inventories, identify promising policy practices, and work directly with state legislators and staff through writing briefs, testimony and other assistance. Work directly with other national policymaking and education policy and research organizations. Co-lead the Legislative Education Staff Network. Manage staff of eleven, oversee budgets, and design professional growth activities.
