Profile bio

About Eric Hittinger

I am currently an Associate Professor of Public Policy at Rochester Institute of Technology, where I teach a variety of courses, mostly relating to quantitative policy analysis. My research is focused on energy policy, particularly the opportunities and challenges associated with new technologies such as energy storage, renewables, electric vehicles, and efficiency. I also work with companies in the electricity sector to help them better understand the potential markets and revenue sources for their products or projects. My current research is a blend of technical and economic policy analysis, focused on practical methods to accommodate increasing amounts of wind power into the electrical grid and determining what role (if any) energy storage should have in this effort. This research is inherently interdisciplinary and I am accustomed to examining the economic, technical, and policy aspects of energy issues. I am also doing some research into the energy consumption of consumer electronics, which is an increasingly significant fraction of residential electricity consumption.I spent 6 years working for the US Government as a Project Management Engineer and have experience leading diverse teams and finding creative solutions to interesting problems. I am very active in the US Association for Energy Economics, an organization that provides an excellent point of interface between academia and the energy industry.I like finding the solutions to important real world problems, challenging myself, and doing something different every day.I can be contacted at eshgpt@rit.eduSpecialties: Energy Policy, Energy Storage, Wind Power, Electrical Grid Modeling, Video Game Industry, Project Management, Polymer Chemistry

Listed skills include Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Energy Storage, Wind Energy, and 21 others.
