Responsible for the safe administration of routine and PRN medications to 60 residents, as well as the proper documentation of all administered medications, patient procedures, and incidents that occur during the shift. Coordinates with the on-staff licensed nurse to provide optimal patient care by assisting with emergency situations, performing First Aid, following up with residents' family members regarding care, maintaining up-to-date medical files in the med room, and helping the nurse to interpret lab values and other relevant patient data. Other duties include disaster management, refilling and ordering medications from the pharmacy, performing rounds in the facility every 30 minutes to ensure resident safety, and providing excellent customer service to residents and their respective families by using active listening skills and therapeutic communication.

Responsible for assisting the home-based older adult client with medication administration, activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs and keeping a log (if ordered or requested by their physician), maintaining environmental safety, assisting with routine blood glucose monitoring, and promoting nutritional wellness by preparing meals for the client as dictated by their prescribed diet (cardiac, diabetic, etc.). Required to implement therapeutic communication skills and redirection techniques for the older adult client with memory deficits or cognitive impairments, as well as the empathy and support required to assist the clients' families with worsening or unexpected outcomes.

The NOC med tech is also responsible for auditing the medication cart, performing monthly MAR reconciliation (under the supervision of the Director of Nursing), and maintaining organized and up-to-date medical files in the med room. Other duties included disaster management, providing First Aid, and performing hourly rounds while on shift.
